Police Headquarters said the global peacetime benchmark is 400 people per police officer. The corresponding ratios are 1:297 in Malaysia and 1:313 in Thailand.

Bangladesh currently has one police officer for every 868 people, a ratio significantly lower than the global peacetime benchmark of 1:400. To address this shortfall, the government is processing the creation of 24,677 new police posts across various ranks and units. The proposal, which includes 10,000 constable and 4,000 sub-inspector positions, is currently under review by the home ministry, the Ministry of Public Administration, and the Finance Division. Authorities also plan to establish 107 new police stations, outposts, and investigation centres.

Bangladesh has a population of 180.6 million and needs an estimated 354,123 police personnel, leaving a shortfall of 146,185 against 207,938 sanctioned police posts.

Between July and September, police recovered 557 illegal firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition, leading to 455 cases and 694 arrests. Additionally, the report detailed disciplinary actions taken against police officials following the July 2024 uprising, including the dismissal or compulsory retirement of numerous officers of ASP rank and above due to allegations of misconduct, absenteeism, or involvement in criminal cases.
