He will be promoted to vice admiral, take charge on July 23, says ISPR

Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah ul Azim has been appointed as the next chief of the Bangladesh Navy.

The Ministry of Defence issued a gazette notification in this regard on Thursday. The Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) also confirmed this in a text message.

Signed by Deputy Secretary M J Arif Begg, the notification said Rear Admiral Khondkar Misbah ul Azim of the Bangladesh Navy will be promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral on July 23, 2026, under the Chiefs of Defence Services (Appointment, Pay, Allowances and Other Benefits) Act, 2018.

He has been appointed as the Chief of Bangladesh Navy for a three-year term, effective from July 23, 2026, until July 22, 2029.

The outgoing Navy chief, Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, took charge as the 17th Chief of Bangladesh Navy on July 24, 2023, for a three-year term.
