Bangladesh has reaffirmed its support for an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state within pre-1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, and called for concrete steps to implement the two-state solution. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam made the remarks on 24 September at a high-level ministerial meeting of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. In her remarks, Shama Obaed called for Palestine’s full membership in the United Nations and urged the accelerated implementation of arrangements under UN Security Council Resolution 2803, with clear accountability and Palestinian ownership. She further advocated for the protection of the mandate of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and sustained funding for the agency. Additionally, she called for preventing forced displacement and demographic change in Gaza and ending the expansion of settlements.
