A Jubo Dal activist was killed and two others were injured after unidentified assailants opened fire at Dhaka’s Kafrul on Friday night.

The deceased was identified as Yusuf Ali, 45. The injured are Nalam Sardar, 45, and Monir Hossain, 32.

Kafrul Police Station Officer-in-Charge Saiful Islam said three people were shot in the incident. They were rescued and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) around 12:30am on Saturday, where Yusuf died. The other two are undergoing treatment.

Mamun and Sajib, who brought the victims to the hospital, said that four to five unidentified assailants opened fire indiscriminately in front of Opex Garments in Mirpur-13 E Block on Friday night.

Yusuf was shot on the right side of his chest, while Monir sustained a bullet injury to his right leg and Nalam was shot in the head, they said.

According to them, Yusuf was an activist of Kafrul Thana Jubo Dal. Monir is a clothing trader, while Nalam is a vegetable vendor.

Yusuf, son of Shahjahan Ali, was from Shakral village under Uzirpur upazila in Barishal district.

Shahadat Hossain Sujan, a member of Kafrul Ward No. 4 Jubo Dal, also confirmed Yusuf Ali’s political identity as a Jubo Dal activist.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said Yusuf’s body has been kept at the morgue for autopsy.
