The newly constructed terminal at Cox’s Bazar Airport is set to begin domestic passenger operations next week. Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Chairman Air Vice Marshal Md Mostafa Mahmood Siddiq confirmed that all domestic airlines have completed preparations to shift passenger-handling activities to the new facility. Initially, golf carts will be used to transport passengers between the aircraft and the terminal building. This transition is a key phase in the government’s broader plan to inaugurate the facility as an international airport in October. Once international operations commence, the airport will adopt a hybrid system where both arriving and departing international passengers use the new terminal, while domestic operations will be split between the existing and new terminals. The expansion project, which includes a 17,956-square-metre international terminal and a runway extension to 10,700 feet, aims to increase the airport’s annual capacity from 730,000 to 1.8 million passengers and accommodate wide-body aircraft.
