The Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (Cuet) Teachers’ Association announced a full strike on 24 September to demand the reinstatement of Prof Dr Abu Sadat Mohammad Sayem, who was removed from his position as vice-chancellor on 21 September. The decision was finalized during an emergency meeting held via Zoom at approximately 9:30pm on 24 September, with the strike taking effect immediately.

Hall and emergency activities will remain operational during the strike, the teachers’ association says.

A government gazette notification issued on 21 September removed Prof Sayem and appointed Prof Sheikh Shariful Alam, a professor at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet), as his replacement. The notification did not provide a reason for the removal. Following the announcement, students initiated an all-out shutdown on campus, halting all academic activities including classes and examinations. Professor Dr Mohammad Ahsan Ullah, president of the Cuet Teachers’ Association, stated that the association has also condemned what it described as completely false, baseless and defamatory information being circulated about its members on social media.
