Almost 100 U.S. troops have been injured over the last two weeks since the resumption of the Iran war, the Pentagon said Monday as Washington launched its 10th consecutive evening of strikes against Tehran.
“While nearly 100 service members were deemed to have some degree of injury since July 7, 2026, 96% have returned [to] duty. They are determined to get back in the fight,” said Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell.
The vast majority of injuries experienced were “minor concussions,” he added.
The injury tally was shared in the aftermath of three U.S. service members being killed in a matter of days following the collapse of the cease-fire.
Two U.S. service members in Jordan were “killed in action as U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) and partner forces defended against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks” on Friday. Another U.S. service member was “killed in action” in northern Iraq on Saturday during a “controlled detonation of unexploded ordnance from a downed Iranian one-way attack drone,” CENTCOM said .
The fallen service members have been identified as 1st Lt. Tyler James Feehan , 25, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Pvt. Isabella Gonzales , 19, of Carrollton, Texas, and Sgt. Michael Emmanuel Swinton , 30, of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
President Donald Trump has referred to the slain troops as “great patriots” and vowed that “every time Iran kills an American soldier, they will pay for that killing many times over.”
Since the U.S. and Israel launched its initial strikes against Iran on Feb. 28, some 447 U.S. military personnel have been injured, according to the Pentagon ’s count on Monday.
In the wake of the figures, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer renewed calls for an immediate end to the Iran war .
“Every second Trump prolongs his war in Iran is another second our service members remain in danger,” said Schumer. “Senate Democrats will force Senate Republicans to take another vote to end this war and bring our troops home. Enough is enough. End this war.”
Both the House of Representatives and the Senate passed War Powers Act resolutions last month aimed to restrict Trump from continuing the war. Democrat Sen. Adam Schiff of California filed a new War Powers Resolution last week.
Trump notified Congress on July 10 that the war had resumed—a measure viewed by the Trump Administration as the start of a new 60-day window whereby the U.S. can engage in military action against Iran without seeking congressional approval. Democratic lawmakers have strongly rejected this and are pushing to have another vote.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to face tough questions from lawmakers sitting on the Senate Appropriations Committee when he testifies alongside Joint Chiefs of Staff Chair Gen. Dan Caine and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins on Tuesday afternoon.
The session will cover Trump’s supplemental funding request , part of which would pay for the Iran war.
Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland, who serves on the Committee, said he intends to ask Hegseth: “What is the purpose of this war, and how are you going to end it?” The concerned Senator is also pushing for another vote on a War Powers Resolution.
The Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 17 brought a brief respite in the conflict, as the interim agreement laid out the terms of an extended 60-day cease-fire to allow time for further negotiations to take place.
But hostilities resumed on July 7 amid reports that Iranian strikes had targeted vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz , prompting Trump to declare the cease-fire was “over.” Escalating tit-for-tat strikes have since ensued, with Tehran launching attacks on U.S. military bases in neighbouring Gulf states, bringing renewed instability to the region.

The U.S. has also reimposed its naval blockade on Iranian ports and associated vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial passage through which around a fifth of global oil production typically flows.
Elsewhere, Yemen’s Houthi rebels declared a naval blockade of their own against Saudi Arabia on Monday, vowing to cut off the country from another critical maritime chokepoint, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait.
