Messi, Rodri, Mbappe headline World Cup Team of the Tournament

FIFA has unveiled its official Team of the Tournament for the 2026 World Cup, with newly crowned champions Spain having the most representatives after their title-winning campaign. Set up in a 4-3-3 formation, the XI features players from six nations, recognising the standout performers throughout the tournament, which was jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. Spain lead the selections with three players. Full-backs Marc Cucurella and Pedro Porro are included alongside midfield general Rodri, who won the Golden Ball for his commanding displays that played a key role in La Roja's march to their second title -- after winning their first in 2010. Runners-up Argentina have two representatives in the side, with captain Lionel Messi, who scored eight goals and provided four assists, earning a place in the front three following another stellar World Cup campaign. Defender Lisandro Martinez also made the cut after anchoring Argentina's backline. France also have three players in the XI. Kylian Mbappe, winner of the Golden Boot with 10 goals and four assists, and Michael Olise feature in midfield and the forward line. Olise set the record for most assists in a single edition, with seven to his name. Centre-back Dayot Upamecano from France has also been rewarded for his performances at the heart of the defence. England midfielder Jude Bellingham also earns a place after scoring seven goals and providing one assist -- the most goal-involvements in a single edition by a midfielder. Norway's Erling Haaland, who also scored seven and helped his side make it to their maiden quarterfinal, is selected as the central striker on the back of his prolific goalscoring exploits.
