Two organisations have separately submitted complaints to the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) against former presidents and Awami League (AL) leaders Abdul Hamid and Mohammed Shahabuddin, alleging their complicity in atrocities committed during the rule of the now-banned party.
ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam confirmed that two complaints had been submitted against the former presidents but said he had “yet to receive them.”
The Bangladesh Azad Party lodged one of the complaints, accusing both former heads of state of passively supporting the Awami League government's alleged atrocities during its 15-year tenure.
According to the complaint, the two former presidents cannot evade responsibility for alleged crimes, including enforced disappearances, state-backed massacres and murders, said Azad Party Chief Organiser Munshi Borhan Mahmud.
